The city of Las Vegas is looking for lifeguards and water safety instructors for the upcoming summer pool season.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have a current certification in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator use.

A local gaming company wants to fill more than 800 positions at a downtown property undergoing renovation.

Fifth Street Gaming is looking to hire more than 800 people for the Downtown Grand hotel, the company's chief executive said Monday. The company expects the hiring process to take four months.

The 650-room downtown Las Vegas resort formerly known as the Lady Luck is set to open later this year.

Seth Schorr, CEO of Fifth Street Gaming told gaming regulators on Thursday the resort expects to receive its certificate of occupancy in September. Schorr said the company is excited to start hiring.

Dropout Prevention Program to be Recognized


Students at Desert Pines High School will be celebrated for their participation in a dropout prevention and job competency program.

Desert Pines High School and the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program will host a celebration from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday to induct chapter officers and recognize more than 30 students participating in JAG. The inaugural dinner will take place in the school, 3800 Harris Avenue, Las Vegas, and will include remarks from Governor Brian Sandoval, who serves on the National JAG Board and helped bring the program to Nevada.

The program, which is in its pilot year in the school district, provides dropout prevention, dropout recovery and school-to-career strategies for students. The program assists juniors and seniors to stay on track to graduate and also provides support for young adults to pursue college or jobs with career advancement opportunities.

The city of Las Vegas is offering lifeguard training at two different pools starting in January.

The course will be offered at the Municipal Pool at 431 East Bonanza Road and at Pavilion Center Pool at 101 South Pavilion Center Drive. The training course is required for people who want to be lifeguards and the city will offer an employment opportunity to qualified graduates of the course.

Participants must be at least 15 years old and must pass a prerequisite skills test on the first day.

Job Fair Set for Thursday

A local jobs website is holding a job fair Thursday at Texas Station.

Lasvegasjobs.com will host the fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dozens of Las Vegas employers are set to be at the event, including Adam S. Kutner, Cox Communications, Ed Bozarth Chevrolet, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Marshall Retail Group and Sodexo.

There will be job openings in everything from accounting and administration to retail and sales. The job fair is free. People are welcome to attend to submit resumes and network with local human resources managers. There will also be a free resume review.
