Police: Death investigation is 'unique scene', unsure if caused by fall or homicide

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — What began as a homicide investigation just north of downtown Las Vegas, has now been scaled back to a death investigation by Metro Police.

It happened in the 600 block of north 10th Street, near Bonanza Road and Maryland Parkway, on Saturday evening.

At around 6:45 p.m., dispatchers were told by an anonymous 911 call that a man was found in an alley with significant injuries that appeared to be "blunt-force trauma" injuries, according to Metro Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer.

First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Lt. Spencer said the victim appeared to be a white man between 30-40 years old, but he has yet to be identified.

After the preliminary investigation, police are not certain if this death is from a homicide or if it is the result of a fall. Lt. Spencer said the man's body was found at the bottom of some steps, causing police to further investigate before ruling it a homicide.

This is still an active scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
