Transportation

Ground will be broken next week on a project to improve streets and sidewalks downtown.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Ward 5 Councilman Ricki Barlow and Ward 3 Councilman Bob Coffin are all scheduled to attend the groundbreaking Monday for the Main Street improvement project.

The $13.9 million project stretches along Main Street between Bonneville Avenue and north of U.S. 95. The project will add green bike lanes, widened sidewalks, paving, better street lighting and beautification with the addition of trees and planters.

Work on the first phase of the project will start next week and is expected to be finished by the end of 2015.

The project is being funded by the fuel tax approved by the Clark County Commission last year, along with general funds and the city of Las Vegas room tax.
