LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday voted to move a proposed 20,000 seat sports arena from the site of the current Las Vegas City Hall to Symphony Park.
The Cordish Companies entered into an agreement with the City of Las Vegas in 2009 to bring a new sports arena and entertainment complex to 20 acres of city-owned land near Stewart and Las Vegas Boulevard.
City officials say the move to Symphony Park enables the city and the developer to take advantage of existing infrastructure.
"As with many of these large scale projects, the big issue is infrastructure. Symphony Park has the capacity, from an infrastructure standpoint, to uniquely accommodate large projects like an arena and entertainment district," Las Vegas Chief Urban Redevelopment Officer Scott Adams said in a statement. "It clearly gives us an edge over our competition and will undoubtedly expedite our efforts."
