Seniors Learn to Spot Scams

The Nevada State Contractors Board spent the day helping Las Vegas seniors avoid scams.

The board held a Senior Awareness Program seminar at the Doolittle Senior Center Thursday morning. Seniors learned about specific scams that target them, tips to protect themselves and how to report when they've been victimized.

According to the Health and Human Services Aging and Disability Services Division, between July 2010 and June 2011, more than 4,300 elderly abuse cases were reported to the state. That is about 12 incidents of abuse each day. Those numbers are expected to rise as the baby boomer generation ages.
