Cat Group Celebrates Successful Spay-a-Thon

A national group dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats is celebrating a successful spay-a-thon this past weekend in Las Vegas.

Alley Cats Allies held the event Saturday at the Heaven Can Wait Society of Las Vegas. Volunteers with Community Cat Coalition of Clark County humanely trapped dozens of feral cats around the Las Vegas valley and 188 of those were spayed or neutered.

Volunteers then worked through the night Saturday and Sunday to trap and spay or neuter another 52 cats. In all, 240 cats were fixed.

The event was held ahead of what is known as kitten season, which is when female cats go into heat and give birth to kittens after only 63 days of pregnancy.
