Groundbreaking Held for New Garside Pool | Parents & kids
A new pool is coming to a Las Vegas neighborhood.
The ground breaking was held Tuesday for the new Garside Pool. The new facility will replace the pool that was built in 1971. It is next door to Garside Junior High School.
Garside pool will include a play area with slides, a heated, four-lane lap pool, two water slides, locker rooms, showers and an entry plaza with a splash pad.
"It will be a three-pool facility that will be interconnected to the east side. We're going to have a children-play area where children can play safely in the pool area. In the middle, we're going to have four lanes of a lap pool," said Jorge Cervantez, executive director of community development for the city of Las Vegas.
The visual center piece of the new facility will be an icthyosaur mosaic made of recycled glass in the pool floor.
"This neighborhood deserves it. They've waited a long time. They're an active neighborhood. They deserve this pool," City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian said.
The project will cost $8.1 million, funding is provided by park bonds and the city of Las Vegas general fund.
The new pool is expected to be finished for next summer's swim season.
