Pawn Stars building shopping center next door to shop

LAS VEGAS -- The owners of Gold and Silver Pawn Shop and stars of reality show ‘Pawn Stars' are expanding their empire by creating a shopping center next door to their shop called Pawn Plaza.

The owner and developer, Rick Harrison, says he is trying to capitalize on the heavy foot traffic generated by the popularity of the show. He bought the property next to his shop in 2008.

"We have 4,000 people a day come into the pawn shop, and so it's like a built-in crowd for the shopping center," said Harrison.

Pawn Plaza is being built by Xtreme Manufacturing, the same company that did the Downtown Container Park.

Brandon Main, the Executive Vice President of Xtreme Manufacturing, says dozens of workers are fabricating the steel-framed "cubes" that will make up the 11,000 square foot retail space.

"About two miles away, we're building all these structures," said Main. "We're building the structures as they're completing the site prep, so a very speedy build cycle."

Pawn Plaza will use 72 "cubes" that will make up 16 retail spaces next door to the pawn shop. Xtreme Manufacturing is a Las Vegas company and Main said all of the pieces of the new shopping center will come from right here in Las Vegas.

Harrison has announced that BBQ restaurant Rollin Smoke will be their first tenant. The owner, Lee Holland, was on site to watch progress of the construction.

"We're here to watch our containers being set, it's a fantastic idea," said Holland.

The other tenants are expected to be announced next week. The grand opening of Pawn Plaza is expected to be in early June.
