Haz Mat crews respond to Rancho High School
News

LAS VEGAS - An incident involving a possibly hazardous material unfolded at Rancho High School Monday morning.

According to Captain Ken Young with Clark County School District Police, students brought a substance to the school around 9 a.m. The substance was solid and would turn to liquid when it was warmed up. A teacher saw about 15 students playing with the material and thought it might be mercury.

North Las Vegas and Las Vegas fire crews were called to the school around 11 a.m. and the school went into a partial lockdown.

Young had this warning for other students.

"If your thinking about doing something like this take a look behind me. There's a lot of resources that are here. This is not a prank you want to pull, and there are some consequences related to this students could be facing," Young said.

The material was found to be harmless and no students suffered adverse reactions.
