F-Street Bridge reopens with ribbon cutting celebration

LAS VEGAS -- There was much anticipation and celebration Thursday when the F-Street Bridge opened back up after being closed for years.

State leaders, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow officially reopen the road at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony on the southwest corner of F Street and McWilliams Avenue.“The F Street reopening brings us back to where we should be,” Mayor Goodman said.

F Street served as a primary route between downtown Las Vegas and the historic west side. Crews closed it in September 2008 as part of the $250 million I-15 North Project.

Councilman Barlow said it was the community who rallied with local, state and federal officials to get the wall down.

“There were in upwards of 20-30 neighborhood meetings throughout the year. We were coming up with strategy, filing lawsuits, and there were countless briefings with myself, the mayor, the council and the state legislature,” Barlow said.

Assembly bill 204 was finally adopted in 2009 to reopen the underpass.
