LAS VEGAS -- The woman shot and killed during an attempted robbery near H Street and Owens  Avenue has been identified as 71-year-old Dixie Chaney Jones, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The woman was shot in the abdomen in what police are calling an attempted robbery on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. The woman was transported to the hospital where she died.

Following the shooting, officers stopped a car leaving the area and arrested the 16-year-old driver and 19-year-old passenger William Copeland.

According to the arrest report, before Jones died, she was able to tell police she was walking on the sidewalk when the two suspects pulled up in a vehicle and one of the suspects attempted to rob her at gunpoint. When she refused to cooperate, she said, she was shot.

Copeland was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder and robbery with a weapon. Police did not release information on the 16-year-old because he is a juvenile.
