Summer Youth Camp Registration Under Way
News

LAS VEGAS - Summer vacation is around the corner, and that means it's time to enroll your kids into summer camps.

Summer camps are provided by the cities of Henderson and Las Vegas, as well as Clark County. Those camps are expected to fill up quickly.

Each camp has something different to offer youth from the ages of five through 15. Activities include field trips to the newest water park or a day filled with arts, crafts and sports.

The youth are separated by age, between teens and children, so there's something for everyone.

"The older kids will get to lift weights. The kids at this camp have to walk a mile every day, so we're big on the fitness," said Recreation Center Coordinator Deb Massey. "We try to teach lifetime skills to the kids, and it gets them out of the house. So, the parents are both working, the kids aren't home alone."

Every week at the Multigenerational Recreation Center will feature a unique theme based on a book the kids can read.

"It's not boring, because each book is catered towards kids of that age group," said Kurt Williams with Henderson Parks and Recreation. "Whether it's Charlotte's Web or one of the Spider Man comic books, we try to do something for the little ones, older ones, boys and girls, guaranteed not to be bored."

All of these camps cost between $70 and $100 a week. If you can't afford it, government financial assistance is available to get up to 90-percent off the cost. Visit the nearest recreation center office for details.
