Memorial Grows at Site of Double Murder | News
LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police describe the crime scene involving the murder of a mother and daughter as one of the worst they have seen. Police still don't have a suspect in the brutal double murder that was discovered Monday.
A rosary was recited outside the Martinez family home on Robin Street Friday night. Loved ones and strangers alike bowed their heads and reflected on the lives taken by someone in this unsolved horrific crime.
A memorial has started to grow in the family's front yard. The victims were killed in the home and discovered after a 9-year-old boy told school officials his mother and sister were dead. Police found 38-year-old Yadira Martinez and 10-year-old Karla Martinez beaten to death. The father, Arturo Martinez suffered severe head injuries and is still hospitalized.
People, many who don't even know the family, have dropped of candles, teddy bears and flowers in front of the Martinez home. A picture shows the family in happier times. One family friend said Arturo always put his children first and doesn't believe he was involved in what happened to his wife and daughter.
Police say Karla was sexually assaulted before she was murdered.
Arturo and Yadira grew up in Puebla, Mexico and went to college there. They recently moved into this house after losing their previous home to foreclosure. Friends say the Real K-O Boxing gym they managed was their life.
The two surviving boys are in protective custody with their uncle. A fund has been set up to help with funeral costs. It's under the name "Martinez Family Memorial Fund" at any Bank of America location.
