County Expects High Volume of 11/11/11 Weddings

Looking to get married on 11/11/11? You might want to do the legwork early.

Clark County Clerk Diana Alba is encouraging couples planning on getting married here on or around Nov. 11 to complete a marriage license pre-application, which is available online through the County Clerk web page.

“The Marriage License Bureau will probably be extremely busy November 8, 9, 10, and 11 due to the likelihood of a large number of weddings planned for 11/11/11,” Alba said. “Not only is 11/11/11 a lucky day, it is a federal holiday and a three-day weekend for many.

“I expect thousands of couples will take advantage of this unique date for their wedding. So to save time, I suggest couples planning on getting married in Clark County complete a marriage license pre-application, which is available through our website.”

The application can be found by going to the County website at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov, and then select “Getting Married?” from the Most Popular drop down list on the left.

After completing the application online, the couple will be issued a reference number, which they should bring to the Marriage License Bureau in addition to proper identification, such as a driver’s license or passport (a complete list of allowed identification and other information is available through the Clerk’s web page). Marriage licenses cost $60.

Typically, there are less than 1,000 pre-applications in the queue (pre-applications remain in the queue for 60 days, unless a license is issued), and approximately 30 percent of couples obtaining marriage licenses use the on-line pre-application. There are more than 3,000 pre-applications in the queue today.

Tourists coming to Clark County to attend a wedding or get married spend an estimated $722 million annually on lodging, entertainment, dining and other non-gaming activities while in town.

Clark County has seen spikes in marriage licenses around other recent numerically significant dates, with the busiest being July 4-7, 2007 (7/7/07) when 4,333 marriage licenses were issued. The office usually issues about 7,400 marriage licenses per month.

To accommodate the expected volume leading up to and including 11/11/11, Alba will temporarily reassign staff so more employees are working at the Marriage License Bureau. The main office is located in downtown Las Vegas, just three blocks south of the Fremont Street Experience. The office is at 201 E. Clark St., which is on the south side of the Regional Justice Center, and is open from 8 a.m. to midnight every day, including holidays.
