Gold Spike Sold to Downtown Project | Gaming News
The Gold Spike Hotel and Casino downtown will be closing its doors Sunday at 3 p.m.
The closure is part of a deal by The Siegel Group Nevada Inc. to sell the property to Downtown Project for an undisclosed amount.
Downtown Project will announce its plans for the property later this year.
The Siegel Group will try to move as many of the Gold Spike's employees into its other properties as possible. The group also owns several properties, including the Artisan Hotel Boutique and the Resort on Mount Charleston.
Employees who cannot be moved will be given an opportunity to interview with Downtown Project for a job there.
Downtown Project is an effort headed by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh to redevelop the city's core with investment in real estate, education and startups.
The Siegel Group bought the hotel and casino in 2008 and remodeled it into a boutique hotel. The president of the group said it will remain active in the downtown Las Vegas market.
