Animal Foundation Seeks Dog Alumni for Show

 

If your dog “graduated” from The Animal Foundation into your home, the shelter wants a few good alumni for its holiday runway shows.

The Animal Foundation wants to recruit 16 shelter dog alums to star in shows at the Fashion Show Mall on Saturday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 1. These will promote the shelter’s large adoption event, “A Home for the Holidays,” at Fashion Show Mall on Saturday, Dec. 8.

To get in the running, email a photo of your dog, along with its name and age, to feedback@animalfoundation.org. List your phone number, email address and preferred participation date as well. The deadline to enter is Friday.

Art Event Leads 50th Season for Ski Resort

 

An upscale art event will kick off the 50th anniversary season of the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort.

Who’s On Board, a red carpet event at Amanda Harris Gallery of Contemporary Art and The Lady Silvia in downtown Las Vegas, will take place Friday, Nov. 16. The event includes a cocktail reception, art show and a silent auction, with the invitation-only part of the event running from 6 to 8 p.m. and doors opening to the public thereafter.

LVSSR officials challenged 50 local artists to create original pieces using snowboard cutouts as their canvases. A variety of local artists are involved in the exhibit including graffiti artist Ras One, who owns POP2 Cultural Arts Center, sculptor Miguel Rodriguez and tattoo artist Serene Temple, among others.

Two Weekend Festivals Show Off Craft Brews

The local craft beer scene continues its slow but steady rise.

Hand-crafted beers will be the focus of two festivals in downtown Las Vegas this weekend: the 2012 Downtown Brew Festival at the Clark County Amphitheater on Saturday and the third annual Fall Beer Festival at the Golden Nugget on Friday and Saturday.

Reviewer: former "Tonight Show" band leader hasn't lost a step.

Twenty years have passed since Doc Severinsen ended his 30-year stint on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." Judging by the average age in the intimate Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, most - if not all - of the near-capacity audience fondly remember the show and its charismatic trumpet player and band leader.

Haunted Harvest Returns to Springs Preserve

 

The Haunted Harvest returns to the Springs Preserve this weekend.

The annual Halloween event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October 28.

The event features live entertainment, trick-or-treat stations, carnival games, petting zoo, haunted house and more for the whole family. The Springs Cafe will also be open late with a section of special menu items.

Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. It is free for kids under 4. Springs Preserve members get half off the admission price.

Then on October 31, Springs Preserve will host the 22nd annual Safe Street trick-or-treating event from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be no carnival games during the Safe Street event.
