The office of Senator Harry Reid is arranging the latest in its ongoing series of workshops designed to help struggling homeowners find mortgage assistance.

The event will be held at the Financial Guidance Center in Las Vegas from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. February 2. Homeowners needing assistance can meet with HUD-approved counselors to talk about foreclosure prevention, sustainable housing options, and/or fi­nancial plans speci­fic to their situation.

You need to RSVP to attend the event. Those who fail to RSVP will not be seen by a HUD Counselor at the event. Attendees will need to bring the following materials to the event:

Tickets for “Shrek the Musical” at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts will go on sale Feb. 1.

The show will be performed eight times from March 19 to 24. Tickets go on sale at The Smith Center Box Office, located at 361 Symphony Park Avenue, by phone at 749-2000 or 808-326-6868 (TTY) and online at www.TheSmithCenter.com.

Patrons are encouraged to get their seats quickly, as most of the Broadway Las Vegas series at the center has sold out.

Volunteers Needed for Homeless Census

Volunteers Needed for Homeless Census

 

County and charity officials are asking for community help Thursday in conducting a census of the valley’s homeless population.

Volunteers are needed to help with the Southern Nevada Homeless Census urban count in from 1 to 6 a.m. Thursday.

Any person or group interested in volunteering is asked to pre-register through the United Way of Southern Nevada at http://bit.ly/2013HomelessCensus. Once signed up, volunteers will be assigned to teams and deployment centers.

The teams will count the homeless population in designated areas without interacting with or disturbing the homeless at that early hour.

One of UNLV’s most prominent fundraising events will expand to four days in 2013.

The 39th annual UNLVino will span four days from April 18-21. Organizers say the wine festival will showcase an array of international beverages including wine, beer and spirits.

UNLVino’s $350 wine-lovers “passport” package – includes admission to all four tastings, a savings of more than $100.

Free Car Seat Event Helps Keep Kids Safe

 

Instead of wrestling with that new car seat for your baby, come out to a free event Friday where help will be available.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC will be holding a free child car seat safety event. During the event, parents can bring their cars in for a free installation of their child’s car seat. Limited quantities of car seats will also be available for parents who are not able to afford the appropriate seat for their child.

Kohl’s Cares will announce this year’s grant of nearly $140,000 to make the support possible. Kohl’s Cares 4U at Children’s Hospital of Nevada at UMC hosts several childhood prevention events throughout the year, including a bicycle safety rodeo, water safety event and child car seat installations.
