Workshops Target Awareness of Cyber Security

Workshops Target Awareness of Cyber Security

Protecting information online will be the focus of two upcoming federally sponsored workshops.

Clark County will host two initial kickoff workshops at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday to provide an overview of cyber security awareness training that Nevada has been selected by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to receive.

The training, part of the Community Cyber Security Maturity Model program, helps communities in assessing their cyber security awareness, response and recovery capabilities through a series of classes, exercises and post-exercise assessments. Training participants include government leaders, agency directors and business and industry executives. Clark and Washoe counties were the two communities selected to participate in the 14-month program, and Nevada is one of two states in the country chosen.

Challenges will include Leap Year traditions, the likelihood of being born on February 29, history and matching news events to the right year. Winners will get special prizes.

The party takes place at Cabo Mexican Restaurant inside Palace Station at 6:30 p.m. with a toast at 7 p.m. February 29.
