Annual Plant Sale Comes to Springs Preserve

You can save water and money at the Springs Preserve’s annual plant sale.

Local “green thumbs” will have their choice of more than 5,000 native and water-efficient plant varieties for purchase at the Spring Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31.

Native and drought-tolerant plant species will be sold in container sizes ranging from 2 inches up to 5 gallons. In addition, Springs Preserve garden staff experts will be on hand to answer customer questions about how to care for their new plants.

A-Tech Student Wins MGM Design Competition

A contest that recognizes students for creative design, successful problem solving, and craftsmanship in preparing architectural drawings Tuesday crowned Brandan K. Siebrecht the winner of the 2012 Las Vegas High School CAD Drafting Contest.

Siebrecht, a senior from Advanced Technologies Academy, prevailed over 67 other contestants. In addition to winning a cash prize of $500, he also earned a summer internship opportunity with MGM Resorts International Design.

The annual competition is sponsored by The National Association of Women in Construction and solicits Computer Assisted Design drawings from junior and senior high school students from across the Las Vegas Valley.

Health, Fitness Fair To Be Put on By Kids at Stupak Center

 

Health and fitness are on the agenda for a Saturday fair at Stupak Community Center.

The center’s Youth Council invites people to a Fun & Fitness Fair at the center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families can enjoy games, healthy snacks, health screenings (blood sugar, heart rate, blood pressure,) information and activities, as well as register for the center’s workshops, activities and classes. Admission and all activities are free.

A Little Jazz, A Little Wine at April Event

 

A weekend-long wine and jazz festival makes its return to the Golden Nugget in April.

The hotel and casino will host its Fourth Annual Spring Wine & Jazz Fest April 13-15. This festival brings winemakers and winery owners together with people at poolside receptions, wine tastings, cuisine pairings, and silent and live wine auctions.

The signature events will feature more than 250 wines from across the West Coast. Regularly priced at $235 (per person plus taxes,) guests who book in advance can lock in a discounted ticket price of $199 for all three events. Each event can also be purchased separately for full price on the day of the event.

Sunday Outdoor Event at Smith Center Postponed

A 50 percent chance of rain is in the forecast for Sunday.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is up and running indoors, but the threat of rain has postponed a planned open house on Sunday, where local bands and artists were to inaugurate its outdoor lawn and park space.

Curtas: even without its full lineup, the market looks like a winner.

Something extraordinary started Friday morning in downtown Las Vegas: a confluence of fresh food and fun that might prove every bit as revolutionary as anything going on at the Mob Museum or the Smith Center. And it did so in something of a false start, in an ad hoc location, with only a fraction of the vendors that will one day make the Downtown 3rd Farmers Market a happening every chef and foodie in town will want to attend.

A local pool supply company is looking to fill management and sales positions next week at a hiring event.

Leslie’s Pool Supplies is seeking applicants to fill assistant manager and sales associate positions at multiple retail locations in Las Vegas and surrounding areas.
