Las Vegas Academy Invited to National Showcase

Members of the Las Vegas Academy Theater Department have been invited to perform at the Thespian Festival June 30 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

For more than 75 years, the festival has been a prestigious national showcase for the performing arts. The academy's show was one of just nine selected for the festival. They will perform "Big River", a musical based on Mark Twain's timeless classic "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

"We all thought we had something really special. I think being invited; bringing it back on the stage, watching it get even better is a joy to me. It is a lot of hard work," John Morris, chair of the theater department, said.

The academy is performing the musical at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the academy theater, 315 S. 7th Street, to help raise money to pay for the trip to Nebraska. Tickets are $18.
