City Of Las Vegas Grants Available for Neighborhood Improvement Projects

The city of Las Vegas is offering grants of up to $5,000 through the Neighborhood Partners Fund. The money is available for projects that are done by nonprofit neighborhood associations registered with the city’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department, and require the nonprofit match funds with volunteer labor. Applications for the grants will be available at workshops offered throughout the city, or can be found online at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Apply/20718.htm.

Residents interested in the grants are encouraged to call 229-6681 to register the workshops, which will be held at the following time and location:

Saturday, April 2 – 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., 229-6359

The Treasure Box Helps Las Vegas Families Strech their Budgets

The Treasure Box, a program originally launched by Good Source Solutions in San Diego, is beginning distribution in Las Vegas. This program allows people purchase a box of frozen foods and meals that will feed a family of four for a week for $32. There are no income qualifiers for the program, and 5 different menu options are available, including one with 10 pre-prepared meals aimed at seniors. Those interested need to place orders by March 15th, and pick-up is on March 26th.

RTC to Unveil Winning Anti-Graffiti Artwork Thursday!

A group of local fifth grade students have won the fourth annual anti-graffiti art contest! Their winning piece will be decorating a RTC transit vehicle, and is set to be unveiled tomorrow. The contest was sponsored by The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the Southern Nevada Graffiti Coalition, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department D.A.R.E. and graffiti investigation units, and Vector Media Las Vegas.

The winning artwork will be unveiled on a RTC transit vehicle at a special event this Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the RTC Administrative Office Building, 600 S. Grand Central Pkwy., Room 108.

Dress for Success's S.O.S. – Send One Suit - Weekend, Feb 24-27

This weekend, you can make a difference is someone's life! Support Dress for Success Southern Nevada by participating in the Send One Suit program this weekend, February 24th-27th.

“This annual campaign encourages women nationwide to donate one new or nearly-new interview suit to help another woman enter the workforce and take charge of her life,” said Paige Candee, Dress for Success Southern Nevada founder. “Donations will help women in their road to self sufficiency.”

Women with nearly new interview suits they are willing to donate can stop by Dress for Success's location at 3400 West Desert Inn, Suite 29, Las Vegas, or one of the 5 Las Vegas area Dressbarn stores, which will be accepting donations all weekend. Donated clothes will be distributed to women, along with support and career development tools, by Dress for Success.

Local Dressbarn locations accepting suits this weekend are:

You can celebrate Independence Day with family-friendly fun and music at the Springs Preserve on Saturday, July 3 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There will be a performance by the UNLV Community band and barbershop/a cappella quartet Ready or Not. The event will take place at the Crossroads Commons Amphitheater at 333 Valley View Blvd.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6 and older. Children under the age of 5 are free. Family pack tickets are also available for large families. Please note: There are no fireworks at this event.
