Lake Mead Christian Academy Cleaned 3,100 Books for Less Privileged Kids

Lake Mead Christian Academy in Henderson lent a helping hand to a local nonprofit organization, Spread the Word Nevada, cleaning gently used books in preparation for monthly school distributions. Students cleaned more than 3,100 books over the span of two days. Books will be distributed by Spread the Word Nevada’s, Kids to Kids program, to 23 local elementary schools in Las Vegas and Henderson adopted by the organization, which serves low-income students.

Kids to Kids, a flagship program of Spread the Word Nevada, Inc., a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) corporation, serves underprivileged children and helps them create home library collections of books to read and share with family members. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success.  Other literacy programs include Breakfast with Books and Books and Buddies. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 1.6 million gently used and new books to approximately 185,000 low-income youth in Southern Nevada.
