New Shoes for the Homeless

As the temperatures start to drop in the Las Vegas valley, many are reaching out to help the homeless population through the winter.

One way to help people get back on their feet is with a pair of shoes. On Friday, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Troy Watson teamed up with the Clark County Salvation Army to give out 844 pairs of shoes and socks to those who don't have any.

People who work with the homeless say this type of donation is often overlooked but is one of the most vital.

"Their mode of transportation is their feet and so shoes are a vital part of being able to get that dignity to be able to have that self sufficiency to be able to feel good about themselves," Phillip Hollon with the Salvation Army said.

Dr. Watson also offered free foot exams. Shoes were donated from local businesses like Zappos and members of the community.
