A Las Vegas park got a much needed facelift Tuesday.

More than 100 volunteers planted trees and painted curbs red at Lorenzi Park. All of them were Starbucks employees who donate their time for service projects.

Las Vegas city leaders says there is a 60 percent increase in the amount of groups like this one that have been doing volunteer work for the city since the economic downturn.

"This is an awesome thing for the city, especially with the reduction of staff that we have been seeing because of the economy. It has been awesome to see the community really step up and fill the gaps to help maintain our parks and our communities and make the city vibrant," neighborhood outreach specialist for the city of Las Vegas Harry Williams said.

Tuesday's project is just one of many beautification projects planned this week for Las Vegas. The city says there will be about 40 service activities like this one this year.
