Lorenzi Park Set to Reopen After Renovations

With a $30 million renovation complete, Lorenzi Park will reopen to the public next weekend.

The park, located at West Washington Avenue and Twin Lakes Drive, will reopen at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. There also will be a back-to-school fair beginning at 8 a.m. at Sammy Davis Festival Plaza in the park.

New amenities include new tennis courts, baseball fields and basketball courts as well as a new band shell on an island in the middle of one of the park’s twin lakes. There is also a new splash pad, children’s play areas, picnic and shade structures.

Councilman Ricki Barlow will dedicate the renovated park at 11 a.m. with a flag ceremony at the gazebo in the rose garden at the northwest corner of the park. There will also be games, face-painting, music and food vendors at the park until 1 p.m.

Those interested in free supplies and backpacks at the back-to-school fair should arrive by 7 a.m. to get a wristband while supplies last. Back to School participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a local food pantry. Free immunization shots for children with shot records will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sammy Davis Festival Plaza.
