Civil Rights Movement Recognized in Display

A monument dedicated to the civil right movement will be unveiled later this month at Palm Downtown Mortuary.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, and will feature the Civil Air Patrol’s Color Guard, as well as performances by the Las Vegas Mass Choir.

The Garden of Dreams is intended to help educate about and mark the struggles and successes of the journey toward equal rights.

Each year, Palm Downtown Mortuary and Cemetery will reward a local student showing a “demonstrated commitment to community service and the ideals of freedom, equality and justice” with a scholarship to be used at a Nevada institution of higher learning.

The Garden of Dreams physically incorporates the struggles and successes of the civil rights movement with several unique features.
