Downtown Businesses Step Up to Help Seniors

The community is coming together Saturday to remodel and renovate a senior center on North 11th Street.

The effort is being led by Downtown Cares Las Vegas. The volunteer group includes diverse businesses like Zappos, Whole Foods, the El Cortez Hotel and Casino and 8 News NOW. There will also be volunteers from the city of Las Vegas, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue and the Metropolitan Police Department. Workers will be updating the Robert Gordon Senior Recreation Center, 450 N. 11th Street.

The seniors who use the facility have put together a wish list of improvements they would like to see done to their home away from home. Workers will be painting, gardening, improving the recreation area, and beautifying the patio. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and volunteering begins at 10 a.m.

The center primarily serves low-income seniors living nearby.
