School Adopts Spread the Word Nevada Literacy Programs | Charity
Spread the Word Nevada, a non-profit children's literacy group, last week partnered with the Windsong Trust and adopted Vail Pittman Elementary School in Las Vegas.
This marks Spread the Word Nevada's 25th school adoption since it was founded in 2001, and the second of three schools funded by the Windsong Trust through a $100,000 grant awarded to continue the organization's mission of advancing childhood literacy. A total of three schools will be adopted by the end of the year through this community partnership.
The adoption celebration took place in the school's multipurpose room with two kickoff assemblies presented to approximately 600 students, followed by a distribution of one book bag and five books to each student. PBS Inside Education joined the celebration and covered the event for a segment on its regular show, which will air at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A guest reception hosted by Spread the Word Nevada and Pittman Elementary School welcomed sponsors and attendees. Honored guests included Windsong Trust Co-Trustees Vadim Fridman and Gigi Osco-Bingemann. Supporters included Tim Harney of Martin and Allison, Curtis Jones of Clark County Reads, Christian Kolberg, Nancy Reel of United Way, Lindy Schumacher of The Lincy Foundation, and Jose Velilla of US Bank. Matt Morris from the Office of U.S. Senator Dean Heller honored Windsong Trust Co-Trustees with a certificate of acknowledgement for their community service and charitable giving.
