Design a Grocery Bag to Win at Fresh & Easy

Ten people will win $100 gift cards and one grand winner will get groceries for a year from Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market through the company’s Design-A-Bag contest.

The contest runs now through May 15 for California, Nevada and Arizona residents 13 years and over. They must submit an original design for the next Fresh & Easy reusable bag and a panel of judges will choose 10 finalists – each of whom will receive $100 gift cards for their efforts.

From the top 10, the winner will be selected by a group of customers called “Friends of Fresh & Easy.” The winning design will be made into a reusable bag and sold in all Fresh & Easy stores. The winner will get the grand prize of a year’s supply of groceries.

Downtown Las Vegas Experiences Renaissance

LAS VEGAS - After deep declines in the 1980s and 1990s, and lost ground from the recent recession, downtown is on a rebound.

Gary Fisher is community manager of the Ogden, a new property on the downtown scene that leases high-rise units that start at $1,100 a month.

"Downtown is now starting to see the resurgence that we had hoped for about four and five years ago," Fisher said. "First residents began moving in mid-November. At this point, now we are nearing the 50 percent mark in just fewer than six months."

The Ogden was formerly titled Streamline Tower, but the project struggled during the recession. Now, the Ogden is helping usher in downtown's upswing.

"Dollars are coming back downtown, and people are reinvesting in downtown because it's been undervalued," Fisher said.

Eighth Judicial Court Clerk Cuts Hours

The Eighth Judicial District Court Clerk’s Office will reduce hours of operation to Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The new hours will go into effect on May 9.

The clerk's office currently is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The court was asked by Clark County officials to reduce court-wide personnel costs due to revenue shortfalls facing the county. Court operations have been reviewed to determine the best way to trim personnel costs.

The Eighth Judicial District Court faces significant personnel shortages in the Clerk of the Court division, while demand remains high. Already squeezed by shrinking support staff and high demand for legal document processing, the change in hours is necessary to process the daily average of 3,500 documents filed in the Clerk’s Office.

"Maintaining an appropriate service level is a high priority for our court," said Chief Judge Jennifer P. Togliatti.
