An effort is underway to build a new home for the Bard in Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company kicked off its campaign to raise money to renovate and expand the Reed Whipple Cultural Center.
When the center is finished, it will include performance and rehearsal space for the company along with a lounge, an art gallery and space for a new restaurant headed by famed Las Vegas chef Mike Jordon of Rosemary's Restaurant.
The company now must raise $45 million for the renovation. It hopes to raise the first $15 million and break ground early next year. The plan is to present the first season of Shakespeare plays, along with works from other playwrights, musicals, and children's theatre in early 2014.
