Billed as the "first videolounge gamebar," Insert Coin(s) will celebrate its opening in the Fremont East Entertainment District on Thursday, April 28. The bar opens its doors, though, this Friday night at 7 p.m.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman will assist with the ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. on April 28 when Insert Coin(s) opens to the public at 512 Fremont St.

Additional grand-opening festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. According to city officials, this new business will create 18 full-time and 11 part-time jobs. Hours of operation will initially be from noon until 4:00 a.m., but may be expanded based on patron response.

"This is as cool as it gets," Goodman said. "Fremont East is the place to be in Las Vegas and we are seeing more and more creative new businesses find a home here."

The brainchild of local Las Vegan Christopher LaPorte, the new nightspot will combine a lounge atmosphere with the latest in ever-changing, high-tech entertainment. Video game-themed cocktails, video DJs and national championship videogame competitions will also be part of the mix at this epicenter of modern entertainment.

The 7,000-square-foot venue is designed for partygoers and video game enthusiasts, LaPorte said. In addition to state-of-the-art video games on over 60 HD displays, nostalgia buffs can enjoy blasts from the past playing one of 45 arcade cabinets and video game systems from the heydays of the past few decades.

Insert Coin(s) sits between the Maharaja Hookah Cafe and Vanguard Lounge. Both of these establishments opened last September in the Fremont East Entertainment District.

The property housing Insert Coin(s) previously was a souvenir shop, but sat vacant since 2004.  With the opening of Insert Coin(s), every property on the north side of Fremont Street between Las Vegas Boulevard and Sixth Street will be occupied.

The city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency (RDA) is assisting the owners of Insert Coin(s) through the RDA’s Visual Improvement Program. This program provides qualified business owners within the city’s Redevelopment Area with a rebate for the costs involved in upgrading the appearance of their establishment and bringing properties up to current building and property code standards. A rebate can be issued for pre-approved, qualified exterior improvements to building facades, permanent landscaping, parking facilities, neon signs and more.

The Fremont East Entertainment District runs along Fremont Street from Las Vegas Boulevard to Eighth Street. The district continues one block north of Fremont Street to Ogden Avenue and one block south to Carson Avenue. The district was created in 2002 by the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency as part of the city's efforts to revitalize the downtown area.
