Lied Discovery Children's Museum Closing Sunday

The Lied Discovery Children's Museum will close its doors at 5 p.m. Sunday and reopen as the Discovery Children's Museum in March.

The museum has served as the place for families to explore science, arts and culture for the past 22 years.

The new museum, which is part of the Smith Center for the Performing Arts campus, is nearly twice the size of the old museum, featuring 58,000 square feet of space and three stories. The extra room will allow for expanded educational programs and more room for traveling exhibitions. It set to open March 9.

"What will be in the new museum are nine interactive exhibit halls. So, it is all brand new exhibits and all brand new programming," said Denyce Tuller Director of Marketing, Discovery Children's Museum.

One new exhibit everyone is excited about is The Summit, Tuller said. It is a 3-story-tall climbing exhibit where families and children together can climb and explore. Each level features different education components.

The exhibits from the old museum are going to a children's museum that is starting up in St. George, Utah.
