Abandoned El Cid Hotel catches fire again in Downtown Las Vegas

The old and abandoned El Cid Hotel in downtown Las Vegas caught fire Monday morning. Fire officials say there were about 50 squatters inside the building at the time, but no one was hurt.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, there were flames shooting from the second-story almost reaching the third-story.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue says they received several calls about the fire just before 9 a.m. This is the third fire at the building this month.

"One of the concerns we have is we don't know if we're going to get shot or stabbed. Because we'll find these people laying on the floor and you don't know if it's a victim. They might have weapons with them because those people are territorial. They don't want other people coming into their territory," said Tim Szymanski, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Metro Police issued tickets for trespassing and arrested six people. They are working with the city ot keep other people from breaking and entering into the building in the future.
