New Business Focus on West Las Vegas Market

LAS VEGAS -- New jobs, new construction and new growth are all happening in West Las Vegas, a part of town that was once stagnant.

The Buy and Low grocery store opened more than a year ago in an area that needed something like this. Since then, more shops have come in to the center in West Las Vegas, a place that for some time was forgotten about. It's these developments that come with jobs that are helping.

They may not seem like a lot of places to shop, but it's a start. "It has been absent since the beginning of time because we never had those stores in this area," said John Edmonds with Edmond Town Center.

Edmonds owns the plaza near J Street and Owens that is growing. With growth come jobs. "People are responding, shopping, going to the bank, utilizing the facility here now that is available to them," he said.

Urban Wear is one of the stores offering some jobs to people in the area. "The area is growing, more stores opening, of course there's going to be more jobs," said David Joel with Urban Wear.

Joel shops and works at the center and remembers what it was like before the growth. "It was a desert. It was empty," he said.

Urban Wear is one of the first stores to set up shop here. "We felt it was a good way to help out the environment. We knew there was not a lot of good things in this area, but we knew if we can bring positive people to this area, we can help influence the environment with great people," he said.

People who are working to bring more business, more jobs, to an area full of pride. "It has become the little hub, shopping Mecca of this side of town and the people appreciate what we are doing," said Edmonds.

There are plenty of more spaces available for lease. We are told Ross Dress for Less is possibly coming here as well as Payless and the DMV, which means potentially more jobs.
